The MSU Extension Bookstore’s new address is a URL.

To serve customers more efficiently, the bookstore is partnering with the MSU online store at shop.msu.edu to sell products online.

The bookstore is a source of numerous books and products on agriculture, child rearing, health and nutrition and other subjects. It provides materials for students in the science and natural resources fields, as well as members of the community who are interested in those topics.

Some products were available for purchase on the website on Oct. 1, and all MSU Extension items will be available by Oct. 8.

Along with the transition to online sales, the bookstore is moving stock from its old location in the Central Services building on southeast side of Spartan Stadium to University Stores in the Angell Building, 166 Service Road.

“We’ll be working directly with people at shop.msu.edu and sending them products,” said MSU Extension Manager, Margaret Bethel. “But they’ll be handling the shipping process for us.”

More than 60 pallets of products were moved to the Angell Building. Bookstore shoppers can choose to pick up orders there instead of having them shipped.

“For us, it made sense to work with great products and partner with shop.msu.edu,” said Bethel. “We’re talented with great editing, designing, but our strength wasn’t with working at store front, it is online.”

Operations Supervisor for University Services Sara Weeden said the new partnership is mutually beneficial.

Weeden said the system allows University Services to focus on managing inventory and the supply chain. MSU Extension can then focus on agricultural research, training and outreach programs instead of store management.

The online marketplace is also more convenient for customers.

“The experience of ordering online will be a better experience than in the bookstore,” Bethel said. “The products that are going to be sold will have more exposure to the people, bring us new eyeballs and new customers.”
