August 11, 2014

Ricard Taylor, 34, appeared in court today in connection with the two shootings that occurred in early May at a Lansing Rite-Aid and at the 1800 block of Coolidge Road.

Taylor appeared via teleconference before East Lansing 54B District Court Judge Richard Ball, who found Taylor competent to stand trial, citing a psychiatric evaluation dated July 23.

Ball scheduled Taylor to appear in court later this month. Taylor's pre-examination conference is slated for Aug. 26 at 8:30 a.m., and his preliminary examination for Aug. 29 at 9 a.m.

Taylor is charged with a total of seven felony charges, including two counts of open murder.

Two people died as a result of the shootings, including Ghana native Michael Addo, a 35 year-old Rite Aid pharmacist, and Lansing resident Jordan Rogers, 27.
