Accident severs utility pole, leaves hundreds without power

June 20, 2014

A vehicle traveling westbound on the 200 block of West Saginaw Highway struck two utility poles at 5:08 a.m. this morning, leaving many homes without power.

The accident left Saginaw Highway between Abbot and Harrison Road partially closed and drivers are advised to seek alternate routes to avoid the area .

While knocking out power to many, the accident also left the vehicle's three occupants injured, including one passenger who was seriously injured . All three were taken to Sparrow Hospital.

The high speed impact severed the utility pole, causing a loss of power to 3,197 Lansing Board of Water and Light customers in East Lansing and Lansing.

Crews are being sent out to make repairs and power will return to all customers no later than 11 p.m. tonight. Around 200 homes remain without power currently.
