April 4, 2006

Freshman Kyle Day went 11-for-17 with eight RBIs on seven extra-base hits last week and was honored as the Big Ten Player of the Week.

Day, who leads the Big Ten in walks with 17, gets time at catcher and left field. He's also among the top 10 leaders in batting average (.382), on base percentage (.495), runs (24) and slugging percentage (.553).

The Spartans have won four of their last five games, which got their record over the .500 mark. MSU stands at 12-10 overall and 3-1 in conference play.

MSU next plays Eastern Michigan at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Oldsmobile Park.
