Ohio State picks apart stout men's soccer defense en route to 3-2 victory
On a chilly 42 degree day in Columbus, the men's soccer team (5-2-2 overall, 1-1-1 Big Ten) gave up three goals in a 3-2 loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes (4-3-3 overall, 2-1-0 Big Ten) in a tough conference game on Saturday.This was the first game this season the Spartans gave up multiple goals and only the second time that MSU allowed a goal.

Zach Bennett one shutout away from holding all-time men's soccer record at MSU
The career shutout record at MSU for men’s soccer is 23 shutouts, a record that until recently was held by two former MSU goalies — John Spink (1984, 1986–88) and Avery Steinlage (2008-10). Junior goalkeeper Zach Bennett can now be included in that company, earning his 23rd career shutout in a 0-0 tie against Rutgers on Sept. 28.

The men’s soccer team (5-1-2 overall, 1-0-1 Big Ten) earned its fourth straight shutout, and seventh in eight games, after playing the Rutgers Scarlett Knights (4-4-1 overall, 2-1-1 Big Ten) to a 0-0 tie Sept. 28 in DeMartin Stadium in front of 1,220 fans according to the final box score.

Montague returns for men's soccer in win over Bowling Green, 1-0
In the late minutes of the men's soccer game against the Bowling Green State Falcons (6-2-0), MSU (5-1-1 overall, 1-0-0 conference) broke a scoreless tie to steal a nail-biter from the Falcons on their home field on Sept. 24, 1-0.

In absence, Montague showed leadership ability for men's soccer
The men’s soccer team (4-1-1 overall, 1-0 conference) have reeled off two straight wins after losing to Valparaiso 1-0 on Sept. 11 and they’ve done it without some key players, asking others to step up in their place. The game is not all MSU lost on Sept. 11, as the Spartans lost team captain senior forward Adam Montague. His loss was immediately felt in the game as head coach Damon Rensing cited it as a factor in the loss.

Men's soccer will face top-ranked Bowling Green scoring offense on Wednesday
While the men’s soccer team (4-1-1 overall, 1-0-0 Big Ten) prepares to play against the Bowling Green State University Falcons (6-1-0 overall) on the road on Wednesday, Sept. 24, they will be faced with the daunting task of stopping the current leading scorer in the nation — Bowling Green’s sophomore forward Pat Flynn, who has 12 goals through seven games thus far. Flynn is already on the minds of MSU’s coaches as head coach Damon Rensing cited stopping Pat Flynn as a key to success on Wednesday.
