The MSU men’s soccer team kicked off its season this past weekend with a sweep against the SIUE Cougars, who ended the Spartans season last year in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, and the Saint Louis University Billikens.

MSU season comes to end after loss to SIUE
For much of the season, the MSU men’s soccer team found itself in a resurgence. After falling below .500 in 2015, missing the NCAA Tournament and bowing out in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament, the Spartans responded with an upstart season, climbing the national rankings all the way to No. 12 in the NSCAA coaches poll.

On a windy Thursday afternoon, the MSU men's soccer team embarked on its sixth NCAA Tournament journey under head coach Damon Rensing. At the friendly confines of DeMartin Stadium, the Spartans tied Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, 1-1, but fell in an 11 round shootout thriller.
