Pavelek, Minney and Khodorenko "excited" to be reunited with Cole

For seniors forward Dylan Pavelek, goaltender Ed Minney, and sophomore forward Patrick Khodorenko, this is not their first time playing underneath new head coach Danton Cole.  All three players played for USA National Team Development Program during the time under Cole. For Minney, playing under his former coach brings in new opportunities for this team. 


Spartan hockey players spent the summer working out with NHL Teams

Over the summer, defenseman Zach Osburn, forward Taro Hirose and defenseman Mitch Eliot all participated in NHL development camps. As for sophomore forward Patrick Khodorenko, he represented Team U.S.A in the World Junior Summer Showcase.  “It was fun,” Osburn said. “Going into it I was pretty nervous to be with all those really good players and skilled players. It almost was a little intimidating, but when I was there you kinda realize, you know what these guys are good, but I feel pretty good too.”


MSU student-athletes named Academic All-Big Ten honorees

62 MSU student-athletes were named Academic All-Big Ten honorees for the 2017 winter sports season, the Big Ten Conference announced Wednesday. To be eligible for this honor, each student-athlete must earn a varsity letter, be in at least their second academic year at a Big Ten university and obtain a GPA of 3.0 or higher. MSU swimming and diving sophomores Gabe Whitaker, Courtney Aycock and Heidi Surdyk were three of 12 conference student-athletes who earned a perfect 4.0 GPA. After MSU Athletic Director Mark Hollis announced on Tuesday Tom Anastos, who led the Spartans to a mere seven wins in the 2016-17 season, was stepping down from the helm of the MSU hockey program, the search to find a replacement instantly commenced.


PREVIEW: MSU hockey heads to Big Ten Tournament against Buckeyes

After finishing the regular season with a 7-23-4 overall record (3-14-3-1 Big Ten), the MSU hockey team begins the postseason a sixth seed in the Big Ten Tournament and will face No. 3 seed Ohio State in the quarterfinals of the conference tournament Thursday night in what will be the fifth matchup this season between the two teams.
