Column: Spartan men's basketball shows progress in win

Appling shows flashes of old self in Iowa victory

There were less than 20 minutes left in Keith Appling’s MSU career at the Breslin Center, and his Spartan team was getting outplayed by Iowa.Having not made a three-point shot in more than a month, Appling hoisted one up and splashed it, much to the delight of the Breslin crowd.?One problem, it didn’t count.?But that didn’t stop Appling. He went on to hit a free throw and two layups in the game.
