MSU Union evacuated after excessive steam release

At around 7 p.m., the Michigan State University Union was evacuated after steam discharge from the building's upper areas became excessive. MSU Deputy Spokesperson Dan Olsen said there was no fire, but rather an optical illusion caused by steam, leading many to believe that there was. Olsen said the issue has been resolved and the Union reopened.

Overloaded dryer causes fire in West Wilson Hall laundry room

At around 4 p.m. today, a fire was reported in the laundry room of West Wilson Hall, causing two fire trucks and cops to appear at the scene. The fire alarm went off and students were evacuated from the building. Associate director for communications for the Residence Education and Housing Services Bethany Balks said no injuries were reported, and that the fire was caused by an overloaded dryer.

MSU football coach Mel Tucker was officially fired by Athletic Director Alan Haller Wednesday amid allegations of sexual harassment from a prominent rape survivor and advocate who was consulting for the team.
