MSU football to send players to provide relief in Houston in wake of Hurricane Harvey

Members of the MSU football team, along with Lansing mayor Virg Bernero and others are planning to go Houston, Texas to provide supplies and help out those in need who've been affected by Hurricane Harvey, according to a press release from Bernero's office. The campaign is called #LansingStrong4TX, and will be setting out for Houston on the weekend of Sept. 15, MSU's lone bye week of the season.

Dantonio and Lewerke not worried about Scott's fumbles

Quarterback Brian Lewerke led a commanding opening drive in the Spartans’ season opener against Bowling Green on Saturday, however, it ended in agony. Lewerke took the Spartans to the 1-yard line, but a handoff to junior running back LJ Scott at the 1 promptly ended an assertive offensive drive as Scott was hit by a Falcon defender, which freed the ball from the his hands. The Falcons then recovered, eliminating what was an impressive drive for the Spartans.

Lewerke shows no hesitation in return from broken leg

After two fumbles in the Spartans’ first three possessions in their season opener against Bowling Green on Saturday, quarterback Brian Lewerke remained calm. The sophomore’s serenity Saturday helped lead the Spartans to a 35-10 win over the Falcons, rebounding from what was a doleful 3-9 season in 2016 and followed by a vociferous off-season.

Tyson Smith makes presence felt in his return

MSU junior Tyson Smith was almost forced to hang up his cleats forever. After a stroke in November, the 5-foot-11,170-pound cornerback said he thought there was a 70 percent chance he would never step on the field again. Smith defied the odds and came back to the green and white.

FINAL: After shaky start, Spartans knock off Bowling Green 35-10

The Spartans started slow in their season opener on Saturday, but were able to come away with a 35-10 victory over the Bowling Green Falcons. The Falcons capitalized off LJ Scott's opening drive fumble, scoring on a field goal to take an early 3-0 lead. But from there, it was the Spartans who took control of the game and came away with a 35-10 victory.

Former Spartan set to make NFL preseason debut

Former Spartan LS Taybor Pepper officially signed with the Baltimore Ravens on Monday morning with a one-year contract. The new Raven played for Michigan State from 2012-2015 and tried out with the Green Bay Packers this spring before being let go.  With a one-year contract, Pepper looks to show off his skills to be able to stay on the team or even have other teams pick him up at the end of the season.

Vegas puts Spartans as 17-point favorites over Bowling Green

MSU football shouldn’t have any issue defeating Bowling Green in the Spartans’ season opener on Saturday, according to Bovada. The Spartans opened up as a 19 and a half point favorite over the Falcons, but the sportsbook slimmed MSU’s odds to win to 17 on Sunday night, with the over-under currently set at 56 points.
