Two years ago, after a prolonged hospitalization with many open-heart surgeries, our 6-week-old son Benjamin died of complications of congenital heart disease.

Michigan’s former Lt. Gov. Connie Binsfeld is now a candidate for the MSU Board of Trustees. Before you cast your ballot please consider not just name recognition, but Binsfeld’s past record. The Lansing State Journal and Detroit Free Press described, in detail, how Binsfeld used her position of power to pressure the Department of Natural Resources and the Environmental Protection Agency to grant permits. Binsfeld’s longtime friend Michael Hendrickson of Munising was twice denied a permit by the DNR for a landfill that was near a wetland connected to Lake Superior.

Native Americans - and everyone else - have the right to protest Columbus Day. On Monday night, roughly 200 people gathered at the rock on Farm Lane to celebrate Indigenous People’s Day, which protests the federal observance of Columbus Day.
I would like to address the issue of racism, which has circulated throughout this campus during the last few weeks, due to the “rock incident” that happened more than two weeks ago.

I’m writing in defense of Dave Wirth’s letter to the editor (“Runners shouldn’t sweat cat-calling,” SN 9/18) that appeared last month in The State News.
Bar behavior is a beautiful thing. For some people, the main goal of the evening is to find a willing member of the opposite sex to talk with, dance with and form a lifelong friendship with - right.

Despite past voter turnouts, young adults must establish themselves as a powerful voting bloc.The 26th Amendment of the Constitution guarantees all citizens 18 and older the right to vote and still, young adults constitute the worst showing in general elections.In the 1996 presidential election, roughly 32 percent of those 18 to 24 voted, while only 54 percent of all the voting-age population punched a ticket.
Through this letter I hereby proclaim my distaste toward said article by Dottie Boyce (“‘U’ should not have to put up with hate crimes,” SN 10/2). For those of you reading this, the commentary is basically aimed toward Boyce.
Wake up, students. The true and only aim of those who lead the gun control movement is confiscation of guns.
I am writing in response to Dottie Boyce’s column (“‘U’ should not have to put up with hate crimes,” SN 10/2) regarding so-called “hate crimes.” I am not going to debate whether the activities in Bailey and Bryan residence halls could be construed as hate crimes or not. What I am here to do is criticize the very nature of hate crime legislation.
I am writing in response to the opinion column by Sarah Emery (“Don’t cry over spilled mocha latte with whipped cream,” SN 9/22). I always frown upon articles that bash and trash the very pinnacle of superficiality: trendiness.
