Candy Initiative waste of 'U' funds
Gimme a break - literally. Break me off a piece of that $150. I mean, seriously, how can ASMSU vote to spend $150 on candy?

This is a question to the editors of The State News. Since I graduated from MSU, I have kept in touch with what's happening on campus and around East Lansing.
I am writing this letter to express my sincere disapproval of President M. Peter McPherson's selection of Condoleezza Rice as the commencement speaker.
In anticipation of the liberal outcry on this campus, I would like to defend MSU President M. Peter McPherson's decision to have National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice speak at commencement.
It's "pro-life" week here on campus. You might notice the fliers and the rallies. Where do 'U' fit into this?
Our public schools are under attack from religious warriors crusading to inject creationism into science classes.
Usually, when I've written The State News, it is to disagree with an official editorial or to poke barbs at Andrew Goetz, the scholarly grand pooba of the MSU Democrats, but I find myself shockingly compelled to write in praise of the current editorial staff. They have produced some fine literature with this paper's praise of the debate team's representation of "this little public cow college that could" and how it stuck it to the preppy kids. The State News' opinion on National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice's impending visit was fair and funny, and the analysis that "this arguably is the most important speaker since the day Slick Willy wore a graduation robe here and probably creeped out some co-eds" is just damn good writing. With the Board of Trustees' proposal to spend $30 million on expanding the power plant, campus group Eco needs to get a grip. Eco is upset because the university has decided to convert from coal usage to natural gas, instead of converting to a renewable energy.
For those of you who tuned in to FOX Tuesday night to watch the final eight American Idols strut their stuff, you're very well aware that a presidential press conference replaced the show.
Hey, I have an idea. Let's get drunk and eat expensive curry! Once again, the perennial jumping beans in the East Lansing City Council have found a new venue in which to express horror and distress.
It is hard for students to come together with the East Lansing City Council when ordinances such as 1035C are passed.
Downloading the latest Jay-Z tune could become a federal offense if a Detroit representative gets his way. U.S.
There are a lot of people on this campus who dislike Condoleezza Rice for her politics. There are plenty of people who disagree with her reluctance to testify these past few weeks and probably even more who just dislike her for the cold-blooded, pit bull stare.
I am writing in response to Jason Bentley's letter printed in Monday's State News ("'U', landlords more corrupt than Enron" SN 4/12). He whines about tuition payments, but we all know how much MSU costs, hopefully before we accept our invitation to attend.
I am writing in regard to the administration's proposal of dropping the proverbial guillotine upon the foreign language department. This concerns me because this university preaches the gospel of an international experience one day, then on the next day, proposes sweeping cuts of that very opportunity.
I truly enjoyed Mike Hayes' argument, "What would you classify a fetus if not a human? Is it a dog?
The article titled "Caught in the middle" (SN 3/31) portrayed the experiences of Michigan Peace Team member Michael Vincente Perez during his humanitarian efforts in Israel. I am repulsed by how easily The State News can take a story about the courage and dedication of the Palestinian people against the Israeli super-army (U.S.-funded), and turn it into a commentary by James Madison Professor Michael Rubner on how dangerous life in that area of the world is. Rubner also felt that the Michigan Peace Team tends to pick a side in the issue, and I agree with him on that point; they do.
The proposal to move three quarters, and subsequently all, of the students of the College of Human Medicine to Grand Rapids is ill-conceived.
The State News article ("Granholm asks officials to monitor gas prices" SN 4/9) is partially correct.
In regard to Mike McCurdy ("Peace Team motive misrepresented" SN 4/8), I believe he misses the point.
