GOP leadership is disrespectful of law
On Wednesday, the House of Representatives changed a rule they had on the books that would allow Tom DeLay, R-Texas, to keep his leadership position, even though he will soon face an indictment in Texas.

Thursday night, my girlfriend and I settled into our seats at Munn Ice Arena looking forward to watching the Green and White skate against Michigan in an early-season Central Collegiate Hockey Association match-up. We sang the fight song, urging the Spartans to "fight for the only colors, Green and White." Since it was a rivalry game, there was even a bit of a "Go Green, Go White" chant echoing off of Munn's venerable walls. So, you can imagine our surprise when the Spartans took the ice clad not in green and white, but in, well, some pretty dingy looking grayish-silver uniforms not unlike the ones the men's basketball team sported against Duke last season.
How could your reviewer give the movie "After the Sunset" four stars? The movie was horrible with bad acting, a bad storyline and it seemed to be more about how many times we could see Salma Hayek take her shirt off and make out with Pierce Brosnan, or how much she was skimping around in a thong bikini. Those two attributes seem to be the only things that gave her an acting career because the lines and the presentation are weak by all of the characters in the film. Ben Nemeth journalism sophomore
Last summer, The State News ran an editorial commending the Detroit Pistons and their fans for putting a blue-collar stamp on the otherwise-glitzy and egomaniacal world of professional basketball.
The Spartans total offensive package was not delivered Saturday at Penn State. Although there's the depressing realization that the Spartans will not advance to a bowl game, we have to acknowledge this was by no means a losing season. If MSU prevails in its Dec.
East Lansing and MSU police have become crazy with the number of minor in possession tickets they are willing to distribute when there are many other problems they could focus on. Police around campus want to blame drinking as the problem for numerous crimes committed on or near campus.
There is no practice more inane, no tradition more vapid and no photo opportunity more whorish than the annual Thanksgiving "pardoning" of the White House turkey. Each Thanksgiving since the days of Harry Truman, the president "pardons" a turkey to a presumably pastoral life of pecking at the ground and looking at things around the farm or forest that move.
Are homosexuals and bisexuals human? Are they American? Do they deserve to coexist peacefully without oppression?
This is in regards to the University of Wisconsin junior's comments regarding fan behavior in Spartan Stadium. I don't condone rude behavior at football games by adults or students.
I have to be honest; I wasn't pleased after reading Lindsey Anderson's column ("Thank you, supporters of President Bush, for four years of tyranny" SN 11/16). The bottom line is that even though this is an opinion article on the editorial page, it is not right to insinuate that 51 million Americans are stupid.
The mission of the U.S. Constitution is to enumerate and protect the rights of Americans and to provide a loose framework of ideas open to interpretation and modification.
Sometime Thursday morning - when a television reporter was convicted of criminal contempt in Providence, R.I., for refusing to identify his source - the prospect of First Amendment rights to a free press took a step back. The reporter, Jim Taricani of WJAR-TV, faces up to six months in prison for protecting his source who leaked an FBI tape of a city official taking a bribe. Technically, what happened to Taricani is allowed for under judicial interpretations of the First Amendment.
Hey, American Dream-totin', rigid-as-hell parents - listen up. Same to you, money-calculatin', class-resentin' college students who have been filled up with the "get a good money job" mantra by the first group. You're missing the ball if you don't care for the value of liberal education.
Nicolette Sheridan has every right to be upset about ABC's apology for running an allegedly racy introduction to "Monday Night Football." One of Janet Jackson's breasts was worth $550,000 - presumably more than a cool $1 million for the pair - but Sheridan's bare back could only be worth $32,500, max. In what can only be considered an attempt at inflicting pre-color "Pleasantville" morals on America, the Federal Communications Commission has again declared indecency where there is none to be found.
The East Lansing City Council shut out local developer Corey Partnership on Tuesday from refurbishing its own vacant building on the corner of Bailey Street and Grand River Avenue into apartments and condos.
Chairman David Porteous has a legitimate concern that qualified Board of Trustee candidates are sometimes not elected because they are unable to campaign statewide.
I am writing in response to Lindsey Anderson's column "Thank you, supporters of President Bush, for four years of tyranny" (SN 11/16). I will not even begin to debate you on the issues you brought up.
I really like the new campaign strategy that is beginning to develop. In fact, expect ads in a few weeks saying, "You stupid misinformed swing voters!
You're welcome, Lindsey K. Anderson. I am one of the 51 percent of Americans who voted to re-elect President Bush. However, I am a pro-environment, anti-capital punishment, free-thinking Catholic conservative.
They're 5,773, 5,487, 5,428, 4,946, 5,217, 5,906, and 5,534 - the reported attendance for each hockey game at Munn Ice Arena this season.
