COMMENTARY

Columnist's view seemed heartless

This refers to the nuclear crisis in North Korea and the opinion page article by Jun Yang "South Korean student provides perspective on armed North Korea" (SN 2/17). I agree with his proposal to continue talks with North Korea, but I am disappointed to hear his logic for doing so.

COMMENTARY

Up to code

What would happen if MSU didn't provide adequate information for students to earn a degree and obtain a respectable job? There would be a lot of angry and undereducated students.

COMMENTARY

Chicano month has to be celebrated

I am writing in response to Amy Davis' piece on Chicano History Month ("Students combine cultures, embrace Mexican heritage" SN 2/15). I feel that just by interviewing someone who does not identify as Chicano, she is doing an injustice to the month.

COMMENTARY

Scare tactics

It's time to start examining the reasons behind the terror threats that sporadically befall our country.

COMMENTARY

Bush budget is too reliant on deficit

In your editorial "War chest," (SN 2/16) you make the claim: "the fact that (President Bush's) budget inadvertently is calling for restrained spending on a variety of government programs shouldn't be ignored by any means." I don't understand that sentence, and I doubt many people did.

COMMENTARY

Story left reader mildly confused

This is in response to the article on Feb. 16, "Student found dead in E.L." A couple lines in this article confused me a little bit. One, the student's name is not being released because the family has not been notified.

COMMENTARY

Easier said...

Somehow, the line that separates church and state - something that should be clear - has a tendency to get blurred. Perhaps it's the religious zeal within people that drives them to want to do away with the principle the United States was founded upon.

COMMENTARY

Argument did not offer much logic

I am writing in response to the editorial titled "Tact needed," (SN 2/14). The person who wrote that particular article does a terrific job of presenting one side of a story.

COMMENTARY

Mixed living

Circle circle dot dot now you've got a cootie shot. Great, that should last through college, the land of sex segregation.

COMMENTARY

Front-page article seemed insensitive

The headlining article in Wednesday's State News ("Student found dead in E.L.") was absurdly insensitive and disrespectful to both the deceased and those in mourning. Articles reporting on serious events like the passing of a member of our student body should not be made into a creative writing piece.

COMMENTARY

Appeasement not viable as solution

Brent Hodgson should have saved his predictably melodramatic reference to Neville Chamberlain for theater club ("North Korea should not be appeased," SN 2/15). Nevermind the incredible kowtowing to Saudi Arabia, champion of human rights.

COMMENTARY

War chest

What is the cost of war? The figure in President Bush's requested 2006 budget to Congress would put it at $419.3 billion in military funding. An additional $82 billion, added on Monday, was requested prior to the $2.5 trillion 2006 budget Bush initially submitted.

COMMENTARY

Olin patients need access to new ramp

In regard to your editorial "Campus clutter," (SN 2/11) I have a question for you: Are you aware that not a single parking place in the planned parking structure will be available for students during the day?
