Torture portrayal not too far off base

In response to the stormy reactions to Mike Ramsey's cartoon (SN 11/11) and to Ivanoff's opinion, "Cartoonist must resign for cartoon" (SN 11/15), I'd like to say a few things. First, if cartoons like that one are meant to attack anything, it would be to attack the current administration and its decisions, not the troops. Next, considering the various accusations and reports of what went on at Abu Ghraib, it seems pretty obvious that Ramsey isn't fabricating these ideas on his own. Lastly, to the many who are so up in arms over this, turning criticism of the Iraq war into a sob story for our troops seems more tactical than logical to me.

Cartoon too harsh, inappropriate for day

I am writing after viewing the political cartoon created by Mr. Mike Ramsey (SN 11/11). First off, let me say that I love political cartoons and enjoy a good laugh from them throughout the week. However, the cartoon I saw on Friday was not comical in any way.

The "D." Motown. Detroit City. A city with many names, Detroit is also a city with many faces.

Educate sex

Let's face it: Sex is an issue that is relevant to college students. Sexually transmitted diseases are major concerns, and most college students know — or should know — they are out there. However, some people are unaware of how dangerous they are and what they need to do to protect themselves.

No 'extreme' logic in Bice's writings

In response to Mark Stiles' letter, "No middle ground in SN; Bice one extreme" (SN 11/09), it is ridiculous to call the science and logic that Bice uses "extreme." Stiles also claims that science requires just as much faith as religion, another ludicrous statement.

Implications true, torture does happen

Although I am not a student at MSU (I'm a comic artist from Spokane, Washington), I am familiar with Ramsey's work, and I must to say that I'm a lot more disgusted by the letters bashing him then the so-called "controversial" comic that he published on Nov.

Rape survivors are frequently silenced — from disapproving friends and family, an unsympathetic and unresponsive legal system and an unsupportive social ideology that blames the survivor instead of the rapist.

I was shocked and appalled when I saw Mike Ramsey's cartoon (SN 11/11). Such a blatant attack on the men and women who are so bravely defending democracy overseas is unacceptable. I could not believe that The State News would print such an untactful and utterly disgusting cartoon.

The State News was flooded today with angry readers reacting to the Mike Ramsey cartoon (SN 11/11) on Veterans Day — the comic I am sure most State News readers are familiar with. Members of the community were also given an opportunity to view the strip along with a slew of propaganda if they happened to walk by The State News offices on Nov.

The problem with Ordinance 1129 isn't the proposed amendment to add drinking games to the list of requirements for a party-noise violation.

The U.S. military was desperate for information after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Our government sought anyone with any information on potential terrorists. While the goals of the government to stop terrorism might have been noble, it exploited the desperate condition of war-ravaged nations in the Middle East.
