MSU deans, provosts rebuke Trustee’s president search ideas

MSU’s deans and vice-provosts sent a letter to the Board of Trustees asking that they only consider candidates for the presidency that are approved by the representative search committee. The letter followed a resolution from the faculty senate and comments from Interim President Teresa Woodruff pushing back against comments from a trustee who said the board might select a candidate not supported by the search committee.

Students bring back MSU skydiving club to "enjoy the beauty of skydiving"

“The purpose of the club is to enjoy the beauty of skydiving,” skydiving club member Noah Roux said. “For me, it is very calming to have the sense that the only thing that matters in that moment is that exact moment. So, everything else I stress out about, everything that worries me, all that doesn’t matter. The only thing I care about is making sure I jump safely.”

Tucker's attorney prepares for possible litigation

Former MSU head coach Mel Tucker is preparing for litigation against the university for the termination of his $95 million contract yesterday, according to a statement released by Tucker’s attorney, Jennifer Belveal, that referred to his firing as "illegal."

MSU Union evacuated after excessive steam release

At around 7 p.m., the Michigan State University Union was evacuated after steam discharge from the building's upper areas became excessive. MSU Deputy Spokesperson Dan Olsen said there was no fire, but rather an optical illusion caused by steam, leading many to believe that there was. Olsen said the issue has been resolved and the Union reopened.

Overloaded dryer causes fire in West Wilson Hall laundry room

At around 4 p.m. today, a fire was reported in the laundry room of West Wilson Hall, causing two fire trucks and cops to appear at the scene. The fire alarm went off and students were evacuated from the building. Associate director for communications for the Residence Education and Housing Services Bethany Balks said no injuries were reported, and that the fire was caused by an overloaded dryer.

MSU fires Mel Tucker as head football coach

MSU football coach Mel Tucker was officially fired by Athletic Director Alan Haller Wednesday amid allegations of sexual harassment from a prominent rape survivor and advocate who was consulting for the team.

MSU Black Students' Alliance calls for university support, accountability amid racial slur incident

After an incident where racial slurs were posted outside the Student Services Building on June 8 of this year, the Michigan State University Black Students' Alliance, or BSA, released a statement calling for support and accountability from the university. In the statement, BSA addressed MSU's administration and explained the significance of what happened, what it is like to be a Black student at a predominantly white institution, or PWI, and action they hope to see regarding improving safety.
