On Nov. 14, 2018, a caravan of Central American migrants arrived in the Mexican border city of Tijuana and were swiftly used as political pawns to stir up fear among Americans.
Ah, award season. The period between November and late February when the entertainment industry grants celebrities validation with the gift of shiny gold trophies. Not only does this time present itself as pretentious, but award ceremonies have become nothing but arrogant propaganda.

Meeting new people is always fun. But when it comes down to saying where I'm from, the reactions vary. Either we continue the conversation, or they ask me the dreaded question: “Is Detroit really that bad like they say it is?"

Happy day before Valentine’s Day! Some like to call this day “Galentine’s Day” — a day to spend with your closest gal pals. I also like to consider today “Palentine’s Day” because it incorporates all pals into the celebration. Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile is a whimsical way to present the story of serial killer Ted Bundy through motion picture poorly executed. The film is from the perspective of his longtime girlfriend, Elizabeth Kloepfer played by Lily Collins, who did not acknowledge the truth of Bundy’s actions. In my last column, I used a “Breaking Bad” reference to talk about Michigan State's ability to come into opposing arenas, fall behind and then suck the energy out of a crowd.
IOWA CITY — Tyler Cook could not be stopped. Iowa’s junior forward from St. Louis had simply dominated Kenny Goins in the opening minutes of the second half Thursday night, scoring on short jumpers, jump hooks, and power baseline moves. At the 16:01 mark of the second half, Cook’s short jumper gave him 11 points in four minutes, and the No. 19 Hawkeyes held a 50-42 lead over the No. 6 Michigan State Spartans.

In the midst of a chaotic newsroom during a chaotic time at Michigan State, someone in the office checked Twitter to see protesters, originally at the Rock on Farm Lane, had reached Grand River Avenue by the hundreds. We ran to the windows to watch the March for Survivors and Change at MSU from two stories above.
