It was Alumni Day Sunday at DeMartin Soccer Stadium, as Michigan State men's soccer honored its 1968 National Championship team. The current team was unable to deliver a victory for their fellow alumni, as the fifth-ranked Spartans (8-1-2, 2-1 in Big Ten) were handed their first loss of the season at the hands of Wisconsin (5-4-1, 2-1) by a score of 1-0 in overtime.

The fifth-ranked Michigan State men’s soccer team (7-0-2, 1-0 in Big Ten) started off Big Ten play on a high note in what ended up being a gusty Friday evening at a packed DeMartin Soccer Stadium. The Spartans were able to fend off a late push by Rutgers (1-5-1, 0-2), to claim their first conference victory of the season by a score of 2-1.

Michigan State men’s soccer concluded their season-opening homestand Monday with a 5-1 victory over the University of California-Riverside Highlanders. Senior forward Ryan Sierakowski notched two goals, and senior Hunter Barone recorded a goal and an assist. After a late slip-up Friday against Canisius in which the Spartans nearly coughed away a 3-0 lead, there would be no such mistake on Monday.

The Michigan State men’s soccer team has begun the season on a positive note, notching three wins and a draw over the first three competitive matches, all at DeMartin Stadium. After a 1-0 win over South Florida and a goalless draw against Tulsa, the Spartans posted a 3-2 victory over Canisius on Friday, followed by a 5-1 win over University of California-Riverside on Monday.
