Sen. Bernie Sanders visited Battle Creek, where Kellogg's factory workers are striking against the company. The strike began on Oct. 5, 2021. In the beginning of December, the company offered a deal to end the strike, but it was rejected. Union workers will be voting on Monday, Dec. 20, on the newest deal proposed by the company - however, many said they plan to vote down the newest proposal as well.
Many of the workers talked of being over worked and underpaid by the company - often missing life events and working 12-16 hour shifts without overtime compensation. The company's two-tier pay structure, established in 2015, designates new hires as "transitional workers" indefinitely, excluding them from the raise structure and other benefits of a full-time employee.
