MSU listed as No. 5 seed in early projections for NCAA Tournament
There’s still a long way to go before the excitement of March Madness hits campus, but ESPN’s Joe Lunardi already is taking a stab at projecting the upcoming NCAA Tournament.
Lunardi, who ESPN lists as its “resident bracketologist,” has been releasing a monthly bracket for this season dating back to August 2012, with his most recent edition coming out Tuesday.
In it, the No. 22 MSU men’s basketball team (12-3 overall, 1-1 Big Ten), is listed as the No. 5 seed in the West region, scheduled to play the winner of Colorado State and Ole Miss in San Jose, Calif.
Lunardi projects seven Big Ten teams to make the tournament, with MSU as the second lowest-seeded team in his field, trailing only No. 11-seeded Wisconsin.
Michigan is leading the pack from the Big Ten, ranking as one of four No. 1 seeds and projected to play at the Palace of Auburn Hills, home of the Detroit Pistons.
