Johnson named Co-Big Ten Player of the Week
Two double-doubles, a career-high nine steals and leading her team to consecutive wins against ranked opponents was enough to give junior forward Lykendra Johnson Co-Big Ten Player of the Week honors, the conference office announced Monday.
The award marks the first of her career and comes after an 11-point, 11-rebound and nine-steal game at No. 15 Florida State last Wednesday and a 20-point, 11-rebound game against No. 17 Texas on Sunday.
The 20-point game Sunday in the 71-57 win against the Longhorns was the second-highest scoring output of her career.
Averaging 8.8 points, Johnson is third on the Spartans in scoring this season. However, she leads the team with 6.3 rebounds, 3.1 steals and 1.4 blocks per game.
The last time a Spartan was named a Big Ten Player of the Week was Allyssa DeHaan on Feb. 1, 2010.
