Tickets are now on sale for the 22nd East Lansing Film Festival, which will take place Oct. 30 to Nov. 7.

Festival Director Susan Woods said it would be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, “It's like going to a music concert, you won't be able to just see these films. It isn't like a regular movie, which play for a week or two with eight different times. These are preselected and you only get two chances to see each film, so it's a unique situation but it's really fun.”

Films will be shown in Studio C! at 1999 Central Park Drive in Okemos. Tickets are $10.50 for general admission and $8 for matinees and seniors.

Tickets for the opening night film and party are $20, which has a reception at 6:00 p.m. and a movie starting at 7:00 p.m.

A VIP pass is also available for purchase, which gives entry to all films with prime seating, and includes a ticket to the opening party.

East Lansing hosts the second oldest film festival in Michigan. This year, the first film is a documentary, called "Slay the Dragon," investigating the history of gerrymandering leading up to the 2018 vote on proposition 2 in Michigan.

“The leaders of the movement are coming: the three founders, so it's going to be very exciting and it's probably going to be sold out and there’s gonna be a reception before hand.”

The festival features films including “Bozkir Look at The Birds,” about two traveling Turkish gun dealers who reveal the value of integrity, honor and redemption in the Turkish culture, “Arctic” about the journey of a man stranded in the arctic and “The Silent Revolution” based on the true story of German students who silently protested the USSR in East Germany.

The festival will present three short film programs, up from two in previous years.

“Every single one of the films is fantastic. We're gonna be having directors come in with the films,” Woods said. “We had to select from over 200 films to get it down to 28.”

The festival will not show films Oct. 31 due to Halloween but will resume a full schedule of films Nov. 1.
