Lansing Mayor Andy Schor signed an executive order Tuesday, giving the official name of Rotary Park to the city's Riverfront Improvement Project.
The newly renamed project includes the area along Grand River from the Lansing Center to the Shiawassee Bridge. The project is sponsored by 10 partners, including the Rotary Club of Lansing Foundation.
Among sponsoring partners, the Rotary Club donated the most with $400,000, prompting the new name. The total investment for the Rotary Park project is estimated to be over $2 million, with the Capitol Region Community Foundation providing matching funds.
"Revitalization and activation of the Lansing riverfront is a priority of my administration," Schor said at a press conference announcing the name. "The various projects planned for the riverfront will be transformative for residents and visitors alike."
Construction for the Rotary Park Project will begin this spring and is planned to be completed by fall 2019.
