Several tax referendums were passed during MSU's Student Election Week from April 2 to April 9.
During MSU's Student Election Week, students had the opportunity to vote on four tax referendums, constitutional proposals from the Associated Students of Michigan State University, or ASMSU, and the MSU Resident Halls Association, or RHA, and ASMSU student representatives.
ASMSU's new 55th session
As part of the ballot, students were able to vote on representatives in the undergraduate student government for the upcoming academic year. Here's who students elected to become representatives in the 55th session of ASMSU:
The State News tax referendum
The State News tax referendum was passed by students, meaning the student tax of $5 each semester was increased by $2.50 per semester to align with inflation rates.
1,017 students voted yes, 743 voted no, 53 abstained and 1,813 total votes were cast for this proposal.
ASMSU Safe Ride Program tax referendum
A majority of students voted yes on this referendum, meaning the student tax of $2 to pay for Safe Ride services increased to $3 per semester.
Of the 1,414 votes cast for this proposal, 1,122 voted yes, 255 voted no and 37 abstained to vote.
RHA tax referendum
The $25 student tax per semester from MSU's Residence Halls Association, or RHA, was re-approved by students for another three years.
Of the 589 votes cast for this proposal, 376 voted yes, 185 voted no and 28 abstained to vote.
Impact 89 FM radio tax referendum
The student tax for Impact 89 FM was also re-approved, meaning students voted to continue the $3 per semester tax.
1,455 students voted yes, 530 voted no, 65 abstained and 2,050 total votes were cast for this proposal.
RHA constitutional amendment proposals
Students voted to pass all the proposals related to RHA's constitution.

The constitution will now include gender-inclusive language, the neighborhood constituent alignment will be updated to coincide with a reorganized neighborhood structure and the title of "Director of Racial and Ethnic and Progressive Affairs" will be changed in the constitution to "Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer."
Students also voted to change the name of "University Housing" to "Residence Education and Housing Services," update the RHA adviser description, change the title of "Executive Assistants" to "RHA Directors" and update some policy stipulations and terminology.
While there were differing levels of votes for all seven proposals, 553 votes were cast for all.
