Michigan House Democratic Leader Sam Singh, D-East Lansing, called for Attorney General Bill Schuette to recuse himself from the investigation into MSU.
"The survivors and our community demand a change of culture at MSU. They also deserve a truly independent investigation. Attorney General Schuette cannot guarantee that. He has failed to be transparent about when his “investigation” began or what it entails, and records obtained under FOIA show that the investigation is not independent. Our actions in response to the tragedy at MSU should honor the survivors. Attorney General Schuette’s actions demonstrate he has failed to do that. Instead of using this investigation as a public relations tool of his campaign for governor, Attorney General Schuette needs to immediately recuse himself from the investigation and create a firewall between himself and Prosecutor Forsyth to ensure that the survivors get the truly independent investigation they deserve."
