There were poetry readings, musicians and comedians performing all night long, jazz studies senior, Dakota Peterson said.
"As a musician, my first thought was benefit concert ... we liked it and it just happened," Peterson said.
Over $800 were raised, Peterson said.
"Part of (the money) is going to Village Summit, which is a grassroots community center in Lansing, and the remaining funds are going to the Lansing chapter of Black Lives Matter," event organizer, Crystal Gause said.
We wanted to raise awareness about police brutality, and find a way for all races to be involved, Peterson said.
"We're trying to educate people, so they can educate other people," Gause said. "Maybe they go home and talk to their dad, and kind of say hey, I went to this event and this is what's happening, maybe you should care about it too."
