MSU students took to the community over the weekend for the annual Spartans Day of Service

November 9, 2015

Spartan Day of Service took student volunteers all over the Lansing community to connect with residents and accomplish their shared goal of making Lansing a better place to live.

Students volunteer sites included the Fenner Nature CenterGlencairn Elementary SchoolFoster Community Center, and many other sites.

At Glencairn Elementary, MSU students cleaned, organized, and prepared decorations for the school’s upcoming science night event.

“Some of the people I’ve met today and on other service days have such great stories about what they do in school and what they want to do in their lives," parent volunteer Jennifer Lathom said. "They forget what it’s like to be an elementary school student until they come into this building. We’re really appreciative of Michigan State student volunteers coming in.”

Students appreciated the opportunity to build on their connection to the community they adopted when they stepped foot on campus.

“I’m not from here, but the fact that we can get students from MSU to give back to the community is a very rewarding and honorable thing to do in my opinion” undecided freshman Noah Woods said.
