Grant Foley, 23 years old, Lansing resident and business owner, Grand River Barber Company

“My biggest struggle was getting out of the area I’m from. I just tend to kind of know everybody down there and get into a lot of trouble down there. That was a struggle at first. ... I originally got out of that area through playing basketball. I went to a community college and played two years of basketball. That really matured me after I got out of where I was from. ... My aunt’s a cosmetologist. I always had my own clippers. I would cut my own hair and my brothers’ hair. When I was playing basketball, I cut most of my teammates hair. After I did two years there I was just kind of trying to figure out what I was going to school for, and that’s when I decided to come up here and go to barber college.”
