Home Invasions, domestic assault among recent notable MSU crimes

Home Invasions

A suspect is still at large in an alleged home invasion that occurred at the end of January, according to police.

An 18-year-old male student told police that he saw a man checking doors on his floor Jan. 25 in East Holden Hall, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said. The student didn’t think anything of it until the suspect allegedly entered his room the next day while he was in bed. When the student asked who he was, he told police the suspect left.

Nothing was taken from the room, McGlothian-Taylor said.

The student described the male suspect as standing about 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing about 200 pounds, with black hair in a crew cut.

The case is still under investigation.

Marijuana possession

An 18-year-old male from Detroit was apprehended for marijuana possession Jan. 27, according to police.

MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said a 22-year-old female employee allegedly smelled the substance and notified police, who showed up on scene and observed the individual.

The suspect ran from the authorities, unsuccessfully, and was subsequently arrested with drug paraphernalia and what police believe to be marijuana on him. The case was forwarded to the Ingham County Prosecutor’s Office for potential pending charges.

Intimidation

A 22-year-old female student endured about $100 in damage to her silver Pontiac Grand Am in the parking lot of North Rather Hall, when a 23-year-old female student allegedly broke her front driver’s side window.

The crime was classified as intimidation or stalking incident., and the case was forwarded to the Ingham County Prosector’s Office.

Domestic assault

A 19-year-old male student was allegedly assaulted by his girlfriend Jan. 25 in East McDonel Hall, according to police.

The two were allegedly arguing about an item he had taken and she attempted to get back, and the male student allegedly was left with scratches on his neck from the disagreement, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said.

The girlfriend, an 18-year-old from Grand Rapids, told police she did not remember scratching him. A 22-year-old female student employee also witnessed the incident.

Police arrested the girlfriend on scene, and although the male is choosing not to press charges at this time. the case has been forwarded to Ingham County for a warrant review.
