Ron Fox

Senior physicist at the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory

Fact: Volunteers spare time to teach kendo, a martial art

“Both my undergraduate and graduate degrees are in physics. But I’ve been doing kendo since 1976. I had been the head instructor of the MSU Kendo Club since about 1980 or 1981. The people who taught me graduated, I went off to grad school, came back, and there was nobody teaching so I wanted to pick up the club from there.

I’ll work here until I retire, but I’ll keep doing kendo until I physically can’t do it.”
