Two students nominated for prestigious fellowship

January 15, 2015

MSU has nominated two Honors College seniors for the Carnegie Junior Fellows Program, a nationally competitive research assistant position through the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

Both nominees are members of James Madison College and highly interested in international affairs.

Arabic senior Varsha Koduvayur is studying international relations and comparative cultures and politics. Brittany Zwierzchowski is majoring in political theory and constitutional democracy within James Madison college.

Cynthia Jackson-Elmoore, dean of the Honors College, said she was proud to put forward both girls’ names for nomination in the program.

“Varsha and Brittany have pursued rigorous programs of study at Michigan State University with an eye toward engaging in our global community and becoming game changers,” Jackson-Elmoore said in an official release.

Zwierzchowski received the Cole Excellence scholarship from the Honors College and is currently working as a research assistant within James Madison college as well as the College of Arts and Letters.

“I am committed to pursuing a career that embodies this passion for global collaboration and intercommunication,” Zwierzchowski said.

Koduvayur is participating in the Arabic flagship program, and received the Cole International Study Award for her time in Morocco.

"In the future, I hope to enter government service, and the depth of knowledge and policy analysis skills that Carnegie would equip me with will be invaluable,” Koduvayur said.

The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace selects ten to twelve fellowships from a pool of nearly 400 nominees yearly to work with senior associates helping to promote international cooperation and engagement for the United States.
