Detroit sports radio hosts bet on MSU–U-M game in charity challenge

October 24, 2014

Hosts of two Detroit sports talk radio shows, The Karsch and Anderson Show and Valenti and Foster, which air on 97.1 FM, are betting on the result of Saturday's MSU–University of Michigan game for Challenge for Charity.

MSU alumnus Doug Karsch picked U-M to win. If the Wolverines prevail, Scott Anderson and Mike Valenti will each donate $500 to a charity that will help the grandson of former Wolverines football head coach Lloyd Carr. Carr's grandson has been battling an inoperable brain tumor since mid-September. Funds collected at www.chadtough.com will go directly to pediatric brain cancer research at C.S. Mott Children's Hospital.

Anderson and Valenti, also MSU alumni, favor their alma mater. If their prediction is correct, Karsch will donate $500 to Dick Vitale's V Foundation For Cancer Research in honor of Lacey Holsworth, who was known to MSU faithful as "Princess Lacey" and MSU basketball star Adreian Payne's biggest fan. Holsworth died of a rare form of nerve cell cancer on April 8.

Jacqueline King, public relations representative for 97.1 The Ticket, said the challenge is about raising awareness, and they are pleased the participation so far.

Karsch said, "Chad and Lacey are two stories that hit home with both U of M and MSU fan bases. It’s a way to give back. Both Scott Anderson and Mike Valenti could not have said yes any faster, when challenged to the wager for the upcoming game.”

Challenge for Charity will run until Oct. 25.
