An Apple Store has finally come to the Lansing area.
Shoppers lined up outside the entrance Saturday morning at Eastwood Towne Center, anxiously waiting for the store’s grand opening at 10 a.m. The first 1,000 customers were given a free T-shirt.
The Apple Store offers free workshops to customers so they can learn how to get the best use out of their Apple product, and those who need repairs can bring their product to the store for technical support.
MSU alumna Constance Conklin, who currently teaches graphic design at Olivet College, said she already owns everything made by Apple, and she just came to the grand opening to see an overview of the products.
Before the store opened in Lansing, Conklin said she went to an Apple Store in Grand Rapids.
Conklin plans to take advantage of the free workshop that the store offers so she can learn more about the Apple software.
Business analytics graduate students Viacheslav Dmitriev and Sandra Samadasvili slowly made their way up the line to the store’s entrance.
Dmitriev and Samadasvili each own iPhones and MacBooks, and they didn’t come to the store for anything in particular — Dmitriev said they just wanted to see what was going on at the grand opening.
Samadasvili said it would be interesting to learn more about the products by taking the free workshop in the store.
Dmitriev and Samadasvili said they ordered most of their Apple products online, and before the store opened in Lansing, they went to the Apple Store at Briarwood Mall in Ann Arbor.
Although Samadasvili said some of the Mac software isn’t always compatible with their class assignments, Dmitriev said he prefers a Mac over a PC because it’s a lot faster.
Like Samadasvili and Dmitriev, Lansing resident Mark Deschaine owns an iPhone and MacBook. Deschaine said he also has two iPads, the iPad Mini and the iPad 2, and an Apple TV.
Deschaine made a few trips to an Apple store in Chicago before the store in Lansing opened. He said he came to the grand opening just to see what the store is like and to browse other products.
Now that there is a more convenient Apple Store location for Deschaine, he plans to learn more about each of his products by taking the free workshop.
