Each team settled for field goals on their opening drives before failing to capitalize on multiple opportunities to take over the game, resulting in a 13-6 lead for MSU against rival Michigan at halftime.

Sophomore quarterback Connor Cook’s accuracy was shaky until the last drive, when he took the Spartans 75 yards in 10 plays, capped with an impressive 14-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Bennie Fowler in the back corner of the end zone. Cook has 142 yards on 10-for-18 passing.

The Wolverines took it down the field after receiving the opening kick with efficiency, ending with a Matt Wile field goal. No other U-M drive lasted more than six plays, and the Wolverines went into the locker room with -41 rushing yards and 120 yards of total offense.

MSU’s defense had its way with a relatively young U-M offensive line, bringing down quarterback Devin Gardner five times. The Wolverines did manage some big gains through the air, though, with the running game virtually negated.

The Spartans will receive the ball to open the second half.
