With less than a day left before polls opened, MSU College Democrats participated in one of the final campaign rallies for the Democratic Party on campus Monday afternoon.

The group welcomed U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., and other Democratic candidates on Monday at 12:15 p.m. at the rock on Farm Lane, where more than 50 supporters came together to hold signs and show their support for the candidates. The rally lasted about 45 minutes.

Although most of the supporters at the rally were not students, MSU College Democrats President Stephen Wooden and MSU College Democrats Director of Communications Curtis Audette were among the crowd.

Before Stabenow arrived, Democratic candidate for the 69th district seat for the state House of Representatives Sam Singh talked about his and Stabenow’s experiences at MSU.

“I always love to tell the story about when Debbie and I registered students to vote at Hubbard Hall; we were both (resident mentors) at Hubbard Hall, obviously not at the same time,” Singh said. “We are going to send Debbie Stabenow back to the Senate because she’s been fighting for us, for our values.”

When Stabenow pulled up in her campaign recreational vehicle, the crowd began cheering and waving posters, while State Senate Minority Leader, Gretchen Whitmer, D-East Lansing, led the crowd in a series of “Fired up, ready to go” chants.

Audette introduced Stabenow, and Stabenow followed the introduction by talking about the importance of helping the middle class.
