After MSU introduced the college football world to its new $10 million scoreboards and sound system nearly a week ago, more renovations might soon be on the way at Spartan Stadium.

The MSU Board of Trustees are slated to vote at their Friday meeting about whether to authorize an $18 million expansion to the north end zone of the venue. The proposed plan would add additional facilities on the structure that currently is considered inadequate, according to a memo by MSU Vice President for Finance and Operations Fred Poston.

The project would create a two-level addition, which includes a recruitment center on the concourse, media rooms, upgraded locker rooms and team areas and shell space for future restroom and concession areas, according to the memo.

The entire cost of the project will be covered by MSU Athletics through fundraising initiatives.

“The north end zone of Spartan Stadium has a number of issues that need to be addressed,” Poston said in the memo. “There are Just-In-Time maintenance needs in the concourse and the locker rooms need to be upgraded.”

Plans for the project are available through a website maintained by the MSU athletics department. The site, which is titled “Championships Build On Memberships,” details the need for expansion of Spartan Stadium to best utilize the resources and success provided by head football coach Mark Dantonio and his staff.

“Compared with peer institutions, game-day accommodations at Spartan Stadium are not adequate to sustain the unmatched success of the Spartan football program under head coach Mark Dantonio,” a statement on the website reads. “In order to maintain our football program at this level, MSU Athletics must continue to invest valuable resources into facility upgrades and the student-athlete experience.”
