Take a peek behind the curtain and test drive the NEW StateNews.com today!

News devoid of objectivity, veracity

As a graduate of MSU’s College of Communication Arts and Sciences, I am appalled at the lack of journalistic standards in our state’s major newspapers. Dr. Atkins taught us to check our facts and stay objective. When were those principles taken out of journalism?

Take for example the reporting on Matty Moroun and the Ambassador Bridge issues printed in the Detroit papers. If I were a student again, I’d write a thesis on how biased and inaccurate the covering of this has been in order to teach the next generation of reporters what not to do to keep from prostituting journalism. Few people trust the media anyway, and it can only go downhill from here unless our colleges take action. Anyone up for it?
