Apparel and textile design senior Amber Bembnister has been busy this month. The peer-elected student director of the second annual ATD Fashion Show has been working closely with fellow students and faculty advisers to make sure the production goes off without a hitch.
“I feel like it is not going to hit me until the day that it is here,” Bembnister said.
“There are so many loose ends that are going to come together that day. It is a lot of pressure on me, but I have awesome people woriing with me.”
In addition to coordinating the show, Bembnister is one of four students selected to create garments inspired by the nearly complete Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum, which will be featured during Sunday’s show.
“We’ve had about three and a half or four weeks to get it done, which seems like a lot of time. But it’s not that much time for a piece that needs to be so avant-garde,” Bembnister said.
Despite her many responsibilities, the anticipation has been eating away at Bembnister.
“I’m definitely getting nervous as the show approaches. It’s exciting, and I’m ready for the day to be here,” Bembnister said.
“It’s like when you go on a trip. You’re waiting and you’re waiting, then you’re at the airport, and you’re there.”
