Finally ASMSU makes good decision

Finally. ASMSU, MSU’s undergraduate student government, finally has gotten something right.

Instead of wasting our tax dollars on an unnecessary retreat, ASMSU finally is going to help make student life a little bit better. If the proposed Capital Area Transportation Authority, or CATA, mobile phone application goes into development and works, less and less people will be so put off by a student government that often doesn’t act in the best interest of the student body.

I have seen too many articles in The State News about ASMSU’s expensive steak dinners and ridiculous retreats. I’m glad they finally realized “goal setting” can occur right here in East Lansing. Maybe ASMSU is turning the page in regard to the way they engage the constituency they are supposed to represent. I think the more transparent they are about their activities (especially regarding the budget), the more receptive students will be to working with ASMSU, rather than bashing them on Facebook and other social media (let’s be honest, we’ve all seen it).

The less the students hate you and the more you actually listen to what our needs are, the more likely we are to care about your elections and feel like our voice is being heard. So I applaud you, ASMSU, for now.

Don’t disappoint me.
