Summer music series begins at Eastwood Towne Center

June 15, 2011

The Eastwood Towne Center Summer Music Series began with the Sea Cruisers on Tuesday. The events are free to the public and run every Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. through Aug. 16.

Tuesday marked the start of the 9th annual Summer Music Series at the Eastwood Towne Center, 3003 Preyde Blvd., in Lansing.

The concerts run every Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. until August 16 and are free to the public. They are held in Center Court, between Mitchell’s Fish Market and Bravo! Cucina Italiana.

Emily Desrochers, the general manager of Eastwood Towne Center, said between 400-600 people attend each event. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and arrive a little early.

Desrochers said a drawing will be held at each concert for one $100 Eastwood Towne Center gift card, and anyone can enter online. During the last concert, there will be a $500 gift card grand prize. Winners do not have to be present.

Desrochers said attendees also can eat at local restaurants if they wish, and some have patios near the stage.

“We (also) welcome people to bring dinner when they’re enjoying the music,” she said.

Both Mitchell’s Fish Market and Bravo! do not take reservations for patio seating and it is on a first come, first serve basis. Requests for patio seating are accepted but not guaranteed.

Melissa Myers, dining room manager at Mitchell’s Fish Market, said their restaurant seems to get exposure from the music series. They do see some residual effects after the concert, and people also might come back at a later date.

“Based on last year, a lot of people come just for the music,” she said.

James Erevia, the general manager of Bravo!, said concert Tuesdays are one of their busiest days. While the patio seating usually fills up quickly, they do offer carryout so people still can sit outside and eat.

Rita Arnesen, a DeWitt, Mich., resident, said she has been coming to the events for three years and they have been excellent.

Arneson said they have very good bands with a lot of listeners and everyone gets involved, including people in the crowd who dance.

“It brings people together, it’s just a real nice time,” she said. “Everybody should come out and enjoy the music.”
