MSU set to take on Evansville

March 17, 2011

The MSU baseball team visits Evansville, Ind., this weekend with hopes of keeping up a hot start to the season.

The Spartans play Evansville on Friday, Saturday and Sunday in a three-game set and have an 11-3 record in their first 14 games thus far.

MSU’s only losses have been against No. 14 Clemson, Bethune Cookman and Boston College, while they began the season with five straight wins, including defeating Notre Dame, Seton Hall and Cincinnati.

The Spartans have won four straight games and will try to maintain momentum before a three-game series against Michigan beginning March 25. MSU plays its first home game against U-M on March 26.

The Spartans’ pitching has been one of the team’s strong suits this season, while senior outfielder Brandon Eckerle is leading the team in batting average, with his .533 average, while senior first baseman Jeff Holm is leading the team in RBIs, with 16.
