Adding another marquee name to an already impressive list of future nonconference opponents, the MSU football team will play a home-and-home series with Miami (Fla.) in 2020 and 2021.

“To be the best, you have to play against the best, and over the last 30 years, Miami has been one of the marquee names in college football,” MSU Athletics Director Mark Hollis said in a statement. “With the second two-year break in the Notre Dame series, it created this opportunity to schedule a home-and-home with a program like Miami that certainly has great national appeal.”

The Hurricanes will come to East Lansing on Sept. 26, 2020, with the Spartans making a return trip on Sept. 18, 2021.

In April 2009, MSU announced an extension in its series with Notre Dame until 2031 — with two year breaks from 2014-15, 2020-21 and 2026-27. MSU also will play a home-and-home series with West Virginia (2014-15) and Alabama (2016-17).

“With teams like Notre Dame, West Virginia, Alabama and Miami on our future schedules, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a team in the country that will play a tougher non-conference slate,” Hollis said. “Our fans can look forward to a lot of special Saturdays in Spartan Stadium, as we bring the top programs in college football to our state.”

MSU is 0-4 all-time against Miami, with the teams’ last meeting coming in 1989.
