Men's soccer team takes down Marquette, 1-0

September 17, 2010

The No. 19 MSU men’s soccer team started off the Big Ten/Big East Challenge with a 1-0 win against Marquette at DeMartin Stadium at Old College Field on Friday evening.

The Spartans and Golden Eagles went into halftime knotted up, 0-0, and stayed that way until Spartan junior midfielder Cyrus Saydee brought the ball into the Marquette box from the side and rocketed a shot into the opposite corner.

MSU remained defensive minded for much the second half and were able to stifle several good Marquette scoring chances.

The Spartans now must travel to South Bend, Ind. to play the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Sunday afternoon.
