Conroy named Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week

September 13, 2010

After making all three of his field goal tries in MSU’s 30-17 win over Florida Atlantic on Saturday, sophomore kicker Dan Conroy was awarded Big Ten Co-Special Teams Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

Sharing the award with Ohio State kicker Devin Barclay, Conroy hit all three of his field goals from 41 yards out or further, including a career-long kick of 50 yards.

Conroy also converted all three of his extra-point tries, giving him a career-high total of 12 points in the game.

The last Spartan to win Special Teams Player of the Week was the player whom Conroy replaced — Brett Swenson — who was awarded the honor after going 4-for-4 and hitting the game-winning field goal against Purdue last season.

Having kicked only one field goal prior to this season, Conroy now is a perfect 5-for-5 on his career.
