Bell named Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Week

September 6, 2010

After becoming the first true freshman in MSU history to break 100 yards rushing in his first game Saturday, running back Le’Veon Bell has been awarded co-Big Ten Freshman of the Week, the Big Ten announced Monday.

Splitting the honor with Penn State quarterback Rob Bolden, Bell rushed for 141 yards on 10 carries and scored two touchdowns in his debut as the Spartans defeated Western Michigan 38-14. Bell had 108 yards at halftime, thanks in part to a 75-yard scamper late in the second quarter.

Along with sophomore running back Edwin Baker, Bell was the main piece of a Spartan rushing attack that accumulated 297 yards on the ground and averaged eight yards per rush.
