The sinister eyes of the new logo are abhorrent. We all understand the virtue of toughness. Clean, honest competition is a defining value of our culture. Evil is something else altogether, and those eyes are just evil. We should have no part of that.
Permissiveness also is becoming a defining value in our culture. When we plant the seeds of destruction we often say, “It’s OK, it’s not hurting anything.” Only when real harm is exposed do we capitulate and become indignant and boast “I oppose that!” That’s at the point it becomes popular to do so.
So, what’s the real harm with the eyes of the new logo? Immediately, none that I can see. And many will take that excuse and run with it and be done with it. But millions and millions and gazillions of images of evil will be associated with MSU over the years if we wait until we have the body, the blood and the gun to complain. And we’ll likely never have them. I guess you either see it or you don’t. Sparty is both tough and lovable. That’s an image for us! The current logo exudes an image of toughness. Toughness good, evil bad. As it is, the new design is not a logo for us.
