Big Ten, Big 12, Conf. USA to meet in Texas

November 4, 2009

The Big Ten will face off against either the Big 12 or Conference USA in the Dallas Football Classic as a part of next season’s bowl lineup.

The game is the newest bowl and will be played Jan. 1 in Cotton Bowl Stadium in Dallas. It will match the sixth-placed Big Ten team against the seventh-placed Big 12 team in 2011 and 2013 and against a Conference USA team in 2012 and 2014.

“The Big Ten has played at least one postseason game in the state of Texas in every season since 1995. With the number of Big Ten alumni in Texas, playing a postseason game in the city of Dallas is a natural fit and should provide an outstanding experience for our student-athletes, coaches and fans,” Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delany said.

Cotton Bowl Stadium has hosted the second-most bowl games behind the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif.

“The promise of a new bowl game helps ensure that the Cotton Bowl remains a premier venue for college football,” Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert said. “The renovated stadium is a great site for games, as well as an affordable and accessible option for teams and fans. We are excited to continue the bowl tradition at the Cotton Bowl and Fair Park.”
