10 songs to get you through the week

September 8, 2009

Some old, some new, all will help you power through the week!

Passion Pit – “Sleepyhead”

If you have an early class later in the week, you’ll need something to wake you up. This will do it.

Simon and Garfunkel – “America”

If it rains at all this week, this is your song.

Kings of Convenience – “Mrs. Cold”

The Kings release their first album in five years Oct. 20, titled “Declaration of Dependence.”

This lead single has a blend of airy-nylon and viola, perfect for a walk along Grand River Avenue on a sunny day.

The Temper Trap – “Sweet Disposition”

If you’ve seen “(500) Days Of Summer,” you’ll recognize this wonderful song. If you haven’t seen “(500) Days of Summer,” see it.

Sigur Ros – “Ara Batur”

If you feel overwhelmed with your workload, take seven minutes to listen to some pure inspiration.

Coconut Records – “West Coast”

Who knew talented actor Jason Schwartzman could write, play and sing so well? This seems suitable for a middle of the week walk to class.

Phoenix – “Girlfriend”

I could recommend the entire “Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix” album, which was released in May, but this is a good start.

Horse Feathers – “Finch On Saturday”

If I had to compare this song to a food, I’d say it’s a cupcake. A really good cupcake.

Beach House – “All The Years”

This duo from Baltimore is touring around America with Grizzly Bear, including a stop at the Michigan Theater on Sept. 26. Got your tickets?

Empire of the Sun – “Walking On A Dream”

Save this for Thursday or Friday as you walk home from your final class. The perfect celebration song for a week well-done.
