MSU-sponsored fellows begin study

February 24, 2009

Ten months of study began Tuesday for 24 new fellows as part of the MSU-sponsored Michigan Political Leadership Program.

The fellowship, aimed at people hoping to run for public office, is worth $12,000. It covers personal leadership, ethics in governing, campaign finance, constituent service, economic development and media relations.

Since its creation in 1992, 400 people have graduated from the program, with one-fifth of them now serving in public office.

“This is the kind of information that can be put to work immediately in a campaign for state House, City Council or local school board,” program co-director and MSU Trustee Dianne Byrum said in a statement.
