Don't be fair-weather fans; support Spartans either way

I’m having a hard time putting into words how disgusted and disappointed I am with MSU basketball fans. The mass exodus of MSU ticket holders at the end of Sunday’s game against Penn State — after Kalin Lucas missed a free throw to tie the game — was appalling. I understand some people are always going to leave games early, but this was still a one-point game. What a joke.

I would like to clarify that I am in no way aiming this letter at the Izzone; they cheered their hearts out for the entire duration of the game — and when we played against Northwestern, for that matter. I did not see a single member leave early during either game. If Raymar Morgan can put in three minutes of playing time with walking pneumonia, you owe it to him and to the rest of the team to support them by at least staying until the game is decided.

When you come into Breslin Center, expect to be a part of the game. The No. 1 most important rule of being a fan is cheering for your team win or lose; otherwise, you’re no better than a bandwagon jumper. If that’s the case, I think the place you’re looking for is called Ann Arbor — and nobody wants that. Please, please help us show coach Tom Izzo and the team that we know what Spartans basketball is really about.

Go Green.
